I absolutely love science, so when I heard about this new place where ice cream was made with liquid nitrogen I knew I had to go to science cream. When I and a friend headed down castle arcade, the shop firstly looked empty as not one customer was in sight. As we entered a lady popped her head from around the counter and was very welcoming. She explained the whole menu to us, even making great recommendations of ice cream telling us about flabour of the week the fat Elvis. We even had the science behind the ice cream process explained to us, which was pretty awesome (full explanation on the website link below).
The café was setup pretty much like a science laboratory, the staff wearing lab coats for effect , as well as science goggles mostly for safety aspects. There was also a clear plastic divider between the customers and the counter due for safety reason but was only small so you could still see the magic happening. The clock was even shaped like an ice cream and scattered around were lots of flaks and beakers to add the science effect. Once we had picked what flavour ice creams we wanted then the attendant went downstairs, she soon returned with these jugs which contained the secret ingredient, ready for the enchanted to happen.
The jugs contained the liquid nitrogen; they were then slowly poured into the big kitchen aid mixer. The next thing that happens as soon as the mixers start turning, the gas started bellowing out over the sides covering the counter in a mist (photos in gallery). Then the crowds started to pile in so we were told to take a seat and our ice cream would be brought over to us. Even the sugar for hot drinks was kept in science beakers; everywhere you looked there were the finishing touches to make the experience all that more themed.
Then our ice cream came over, two tubs of awe-inspiring frozen ice cream tastiness. I had ordered the warm gooey chocolate ice cream sandwich. This contained two gluten free dark chocolate cookies infused with pecans, wedged around smooth peanut butter ice cream. The two items complimented each other so well, but any ice cream on the menu can be chosen for the centre. My friends chose the salted caramel ice cream and it did not fail to disappoint. Both had great taste and less the fiver, I even grabbed a loyalty card and will be sure to return to try all the flavours. This is now one of my new favourite dessert places and I will sure to recommend to all!
