Rasa Saysng

On a recent visit to London I visited Rasa Saysng to grab a spot of dinner. Located in soho , nearest stop being Tottenhamcourt road, it serves Singapore and Malaysian cuisine. When we arrived for our 8pm slot it was very busy with a queue forming outside. Lucky for us we had booked in advance. Our table was not ready when we arrived and had to wait a further 10 minutes.

Once sat at are our table we were shown a menu. It had a range of options, from curry's, noodles , soups and sides. We ordered our drinks first, with a range of soft and alcoholic drinks there was something for everyone. I opted for a mocktail called a quiet storm(5.95). It had passion fruit, coco Lopez, lime and lychee , it was so refreshing. Matthew and Ian opted for one of their beer options with asahi costing (£5.25) for a bottle. This maybe London prices , but in my eyes seemed a lot.

So it was time to order food, we did not feel rushed in anyway which was great seeing as Matthew was running late. I narrowed it down to a chicken curry with roti(£12.50). When it came over it was a good reasonable size, the spices were delicious. My roti was lovely and flaky, just wish there was more of it. The curry mind was very oily, even in the picture below you can see this.

Matthew opted for laska, a seafood version(£13.95). Out of all the dishes this was the best value for money dish. It came with prawns, scallops ,eggs and a huge amount of broth. I was actually jealous as the portion size was huge. Ian opted for the beef randang(£12.95) and a side of jasime rice(£2.95). For the price you were paying the portion was very small. The fact the queues outside make it seem popular , he has had better randangs, it lacked the wow factor.

Overall the food was decent, but I was not blown away. Maybe it was the dish I had chosen, or the hype of the queue outside. The star of the show was the mocktail, not the food which is not good sign.
