Eat 17

Located just a stones throw away from Walthamstow train station is Eat 17. Located in Walthamstow village amongst a few little shops. We had booked in advance to avoid disappointment, good thing we did as we had to queue to get in.

As you walk in there is two sections, what I would call a coffee shop side and then the bistro side. Both separated by a curtain as I found out when I had to move it to leave. The decor I would call some what art deco, with mirrors , with silver , golds and wood.

We had booked with intention of getting a roast dinner. They do have other options on their menu for that day such as small plates and a few mains.

We first got our drinks, both opting for the same thing. The homemade lemonade(£4.75), this was a generous glass and was well made. We also had some tap water which was brought over promptly.

For the roast dinner there is a few options beef, pork. Chicken or a nut roast. If you like me I am very visual , so was eyeing up other people's tables to help me choose. I also asked the waiter the deciding factor, how the beef was cooked. I was impressed he knew , medium rare and I was sold.

The dry aged top side of beef did not disappoint, the 3 slices you got were huge. It was easy to eat, cut well and was so filling. This also came with a Yorkshire pudding, which was on the side. This was filled with stuffing tones of the stuff.

The other sides were then hidden under the beef slices. Two roasted carrots that were pretty decent. A mound of greens, some purred squash and gravy. By the time I got to the squash it was like mush as the beef juices and gravy had blended it to a mush. It says it came with roasted potatoes, but I don't remember having any. Either there must of been one very unforgettable potato or I did lack them. I feel there should at least be three potatoes on a roast as they can make or break a roast.

Overall our experience was good, the waiter that served us was knowledgeable. What I think was the manager though just seemed to have a serious face and did not crack a smile once.
