revs de cuba

The spinal injury I had meant that bars were a definite no go zone for me while I was on crutches as well as having no alcohol due to the medication I was on. So as soon as it was a friend’s birthday celebration I jumped at the chance to go out and have a good time. The place she had chosen to go to was revolution de Cuba, situated just by the friary. As you enter the bar you hear the music echoing through the room, as if you were in Havana itself. The walls are covered in pictures of such things as Che Guevara, a huge map of Cuba and many pictures of dancers among other things.

Once I found my friends they had chosen to sit in some really comfy leather seats, which even had some cushions for comfort. They had also arrived earlier to grab a bite to eat; I looked at the menu which was displayed as if it was a newspaper. The menu looked amazing, with you being able to have either burritos, tapas or many other Cuban delights. When I can eat bread I will be sure to return to try there burritos with mojito lunch time offer for £10 it sounds awesome. My friends had opted for tapas which were 6 dishes for £28, a bargain considering the size of the dishes (photos in the gallery).

Since I had not had alcohol in a very long time and also had work at 9 am the next day, I opted for an alcohol free drink. Although I could only have a few drink on the menu I selected a mocktail. I chose the apple and raspberry mojito; it was pretty tasty even without the alcohol and had lots of fresh raspberries in it. On the menu though they had their beers and ciders they sold but no prices so would out me off purchasing it. My friends bought breathtaking fruit and rum cocktails, which come in rustic tin tea pot and mugs (pictures in gallery).

At the start of the night they had a live singer and keyboard player with them singing kind of funk style songs. The singer just before she finished even sang an upbeat funky version of happy birthday that was very appropriate for my friend and others celebrating. After the live signing came they had a dj playing, If you were planning on having a chat then don’t be expect to as its very loud. The music creates a cheerful up beat atmosphere and you could be dancing the night away. For the short 2 to 3 hours I was there it was a very enjoyable experience and I will be sure to return and dance the night away.
