Tea and cake

Situated in the area of Roath along welfield road, is the family run business tea and cake. Stepping in you hear the chatter of people, then smell of freshly brewed coffee and the assortment of brightly coloured seats. Walking towards the back of the shop you pass, a glass cabinet full of chocolate on the left, on the right cards and trinkets that you can also buy. This was not my first visit to this café, but I had not been for about 2 years and the scenery had changed a lot. We originally sat by the counter on some rustic wooden chairs, but unfortunately the table was wobbly so had to move. We chose to sit in the corner booth with an alumnus pink seat covering, where the table was not wobbly.

The cake cabinet was mouthwatering, making it very hard to narrow down what cake I wanted. From huge custard slices, toffee cake, chocolate fudge and many more, it made it very hard to make a decision. Finally I settled on a lemon and ginger cake and my friend had the chocolate fudge cake. Both were gorgeous, the chocolate cake being so gooey and the lemon and ginger cake being just the right amount of sweetness. I love the fact that none of the plates matched each other giving it a very eclectic feel.

Their range of drinks is more than expansive, with turning plain coffees into a feast. Their Choice of different flavored syrups will leave you spoiled for choice and you can even have a white chocolate hot chocolate. The beverage we choose to drink was tea; though we only had the basic English breakfast. They came in the cutest tea pots with little orange owls on, which they sell in the shop at the front, the cups we had are very cute vintage china. Although we had English breakfast tea their vast array of tea has such flavors as Darjeeling, several versions of green tea and many herbal teas for everyone’s tastes.

I will be sure to be visiting tea and cake in the near future to samples many more of their delights. They have a great lunch menu and when I can once again have bread will be sure to try a panni or baguette. When the weather brightens up there is even a snug garden at the back to sit and relax with one of their smoothies. The staffs were very welcoming and gratefully bring your order to your seat saving any spillages if you’re clumsy like me. The only thing I would say that if you’re looking for a quiet coffee and a place to read I would not advise this as it can get very busy and quite atmospheric.
