On the corner of Albany road is what you could call a pub, bistro or café which is part of the welsh chain brains. As soon as you walk in you are spoilt for choice on where to sit, with there being rustic wooden chairs or an assortment of eclectic sofas and arm chairs. Me and a friend made our way up the winding stairs and found our self a comfy corner sofa to sit on. The table was a homely wooden one just the right height to be eaten off.
The menu was so expansive that it took me forever to decide on what I wanted to eat. If you fancied something extra there was a specials menu displaced on a giant chalk board. There was also a tapas menu to choose from but this was not as clearly displayed, when we went downstairs to order all the leaflets were behind the till so had put us off a bit. The menu has a great array of information, including gluten free, dairy free and even telling you if meals are suitable for vegans.
After a lot of pondering I settled on a portion of pulled pork nachos, I had the small version but they do larger share size portions. The bowl came loaded with heaps of salsa, guacamole and sour cream plenty enough to spread on each nacho. The pulled pork was beautifully moist and just melted in my mouth and balanced well with the crunch of the nachos. The bowl came with two types on peppers but I was foolish enough to try one of the hot roquito peppers and instantly my mouth regretted that decision. The roasted peppers on the other had been much better and nowhere near as hot. The bowl was substantially filling and there was just the right amount of cheese. This only Costing a reasonable £6.95 I will be sure to return to have this tasty treat.
My friend choose one of their many salads, choosing the basic superfood salad but topping it with chicken. The array of ingredients was so extensive including baby spinach leaves, borlotti beans, courgette, pumpkin seeds and carrot. These are just a few of items of the ten ingredient salad. The dressing is extra virgin rapeseed oil, but when the salad was brought over, the offer of sauce was given and my friend added a bit of mayonnaise. The superfood salad on its own cost £5.50 but to add the chicken it brings it up to £7.50. This salad certainly has all of your five a day in it but with a great taste.
I will be sure to be visiting the pear tree again to try one of their burgers which just sound mouth-watering. There jazz night which I saw advertised also sound brilliant for a nice relaxing evening with a few friends. This is a great place to visit throughout the day for all ages or have a chilled out grown up catch up with friends.
