The Depot- burgers & beats

When the depot first made its appearance in Cardiff, the first glance I had was from the car window dropping my brother off. Jealous of what was behind the walls of the warehouse I knew when I was off my crutches I had to go! So this bank holiday it came around to get the chance to visit and see what all the fuss was about. When walking down dumbells road you question which abandoned building it is. Then there with just a simplistic sign saying depot is the entrance. As you then enter the building the first section is like the interior of something from the sixties. With bright coloured carpet and the effect of a hotel lobby being created you are greeted and welcomed in.

Turning the corner is then the main part of the warehouse where all the food amazement is with music echoing throughout. In the Center of the warehouse was a giant tree made with planks of used wood and huge butterfly’s perched on top. To the left was a bar made out of old pallets which I love, they had a huge range of beers, ciders and ales though I stuck to the water. As we did a lap of the warehouse there was plenty to take it. Among the food stalls was loads of entertainment firstly, a beach area with palm trees and big beach balls. As you turn the corner there are 3 ping pong tables to challenge your friends. Unfortunately my coordination is not great so thought I’d save people getting hit by flying balls. There was also a van projecting a black and white film on the wall. Until you get into the van you think it’s a silent movie but the van is the secret source of sound to hear all. Where the main seating area is are lines of wooden benches and tables, plenty of room to enjoy your food. Above them there are pretty display of multi-coloured umbrellas displayed above just floating in the air. The final display of seat is made out of all things cars, giant monster truck wheels as tables and smaller tyres used for seat.

There was plenty more in the form of art. A somewhat mind boggling mound painted black and white. With the pattern creating an optical illusion of a never ending corridor. I knew that there was meant to be live graffiti on display but until I walked past the smoking area and smelt the paint it was not so clear where it was. When we stepped out the majority of the display was done and the finishing touches were being added. Celebrating the bank holiday event written was beats and burger with a livening burger displayed (picture in gallery).

It then soon came time to deciding what food to eat, having done several laps of the warehouse I finally settled on the philly steak cheese company. They had several versions you could have with there being basic options of spicy options. I opted for the sweet chili version, sweet chill sauce, beef, onions and mozzarella. All of this was then piled into a bread roll bursting at the seams I even had to get a fork to save it from falling out. When I took my first bite the combinations of flavours were so tasty I didn’t want the food to come to an end. The food was also a reasonable price cost £5 for the item I purchased.

Once I had demolished my main of course I had to treat myself to have some dessert. One of my favourtie ice cream companies had brought themselves down to the event and I was gleaming with joy. They had a much more extensive menu from there shop bringing all there top sellers from the past. One that I had not tried and sounds so good was the peanut butter jelly ice cream. Lashing of peanut butter ice cream with gooey jam sauce and then sprinkled with fried brioche. The combination of all the falvours made this the best out of their ice creams I tried so far.

These may have been the two companies I tried food from but the vast range made it very hard to choose from. Such food as , thai green curry , got beef( a burger company), Spanish food and many more bbq meat companies. Truly something that was for everyone’s tastes so much food such little time to try and only so much room in my stomach. I was glad that I finally managed to visit the depot and will be looking forward to many other events that are held there.
