In May for a friend’s birthday we went and visited an old favourite of out ichbans for some awesome sushi. This place is one visited by use several times as well as getting takeaway from the business as well. Just opposite the Claude pub on Albany road a great array of food is served. The decoration had many traditional Japanese tokens to set the scene.
We were seated down in a booth which gave us nice exclusivity for eating our food seeing as sushi is hard to eat in a lady like manor. The placemat depicted all the types of sushi on offer so when reading the actual menu it made life a lot easier. The waitress came over and offered us drinks; I chose my favorite drink of mango juice!!!! On the menu there is also an excellent range of Asian beers including a drink called ashi, something to quench anyone thirst.
When it came to ordering me and my friend can demolish loads and loads of sushi so the waitress had her work cut out. Every time we come we wanted to try scallops but every time we tried to order it they never had it. On this occasion it was our lucky day and we got our scallop sushi, unfortunately I don’t think I will ordering it again as it was not to my taste. One of our regular sushi orders is salmon nigri, this consists of a tight back block of sushi rice with a slice of raw salmon placed on top. But my friend can’t go without ordering a plate of salmon shashmi, several slices of raw salmon placed on a bed of shredded cabbage. We demolished both of these with a great unlimited supply of soy sauce.
We then went on to order not so healthy but awesomely delicious chicken goygozas. These are deep fried pastry with chicken and vegetables; they also come with a beautiful honey soy sauce which accompanies them. For the main meal I had a beautiful dish of chicken katsu curry, thought there is an excellent pork version as well. The chicken is covered in bread breadcrumbs with lashing of sauce and the tons of rice shaped in a dome. If you’re not a big eater I would advise that you don’t order any extras as it can be very filling.
We eventually made it through our mound of food and were extremely satisfied by the end of it. The members off staff don’t make you feel rushed at all while you’re eating so you can enjoy at your own pace. The overall cost came to around £50 for the two of us, which is a reasonable price for the sushi that is on offer in Cardiff. I’m sure to be visiting the restaurant many times in the future to make my way through all types of sushi.
