A few weekends ago I and a few friends headed down to welfield road to chaiholics. A coffee bar by day and by night an Indian restaurant with a twist. Every time I had gone past in the evening it was always full so I made sure that we booked to avoid disappointment. When we arrived we were welcomed and shown to our table, the tables and chairs were wooden with metal gladding. If like my friend Ben you are very tall you may not be able to fit your legs under the table and have to sit slightly away from the table. The menus were not your typical menu and were laid out like a newspaper spreads which made it a bit more interesting. On the side it had a lot of tea themed jokes that some unless you knew everything about tea you may have not gotten.
The waitress came over and was very welcoming asking if we would like some drinks as well as some appetizers. We opted for some poppadums’ which came with 3 dipping sauces with my favorite being the mango. My friends ordered them selfs some beers to drink while I went for the alcohol free option of a mango lassi. Seeing as I love mangos this was a great choice, the combination of mango and yogurt being a great coolant for the food that was to come. While we were deciding on what to have the waitress kindly informed us that if we needed any advice on the heat of the food she was happy to help. Although we were fine it was good to know the advice was there and the staff were knowledgeable of the food they severed.
We finally settled down on what to order and then had a catch up chat while we waited. Bought to our table were some plates as soon as they were placed in front of me I instantly had a feeling of home. The plates they served food on were from whitards and I had the exact ones at home, this made me chuckle a bit. Soon my burger came over placed on a wooden plank with a side of chips and coleslaw. The burger I purchased was a lamb rann burger (pulled lamb), it was quite a mouth full to eat but I thoroughly enjoyed it. My friends all opted for one of their many curry’s, each having a separate bowl of rice so you could control your own curry to rice ratio. We were all pretty satisfied with the food, we had demolished as well as it being reasonably priced at about £10 per dish.
We all pondered for a bit on if we could get in room for dessert, but after not much deliberation we thought lets do it. Although on the menu there is only a short amount on offer, there were plenty of cakes on the counter for you choose from. I opted from the lemon and blueberry which was very moist, with the others having a just as nice carrot cake. Having sampled their cakes I will be sure to return to try another cake soon or maybe opt for their afternoon tea with a twist. Overall the staff are friendly and the food is delicious. I just think that the seating is not one of most comfortable arrangements, so sitting for a long time is not advised in my opinion.
