After my friend Ben had watched a documentary on made Cardiff he instantly fell in love with the food they served at The Smoke Haus. The first one opened in Swansea, but last year Cardiff had a branch open just around the corner from the motor point arena. We didn’t plan on booking as we thought on a week night it would be reasonably quiet. Luckily we were seated just by the window in a comfortable booth. I had to dash to the toilet but we were quickly offered if we would like any drinks. On my return our drinks were there waiting for us.
When we sat down we were mesmerised by the amount of food on offer . The menu was huge and had made it a hard choice of narrowing our choice down. The waitress came over twice asking if we were ready to order and by the 3rd time I think she realised we would need a lot more time deciding. We eventually narrowed down our choices, we were both hungry so went for huge options.
I choose to have the haus rib platter, this came with half pork sheet ribs, half baby back ribs and a 1 bone Jacob’s ladder. It then came with a side of skin on fries and some coleslaw. When the mound of ribs came over I knew that I was going to struggle to finish all my food. The first bite I took the meat just fell off the bone and was so moist and delicious. By the time I had gotten to the 3rd set of ribs I was struggling to finish my food and was truly defeated. The cost of my food came to £21.95 which covers the sheer volume of meat.
Ben opted for one of their many burgers they have to offer, which comes with skin on fries and coleslaw. He went for the southern comfort burger but opted for a double burger! The burger also came with bacon, a whole chicken breast, fried onions and garlic mayonnaise. The burger was huge and I don’t know how he managed to eat the majority of it. The cost of the burger was pretty good value costing £13.95 for the double.
We were then offered dessert and we were both sure we could not even move the amount of food we had just eaten. The deco was somewhat simplistic but kind of kept you interested. With framed prints of famous movies or landmarks in Cardiff. I will be sure to return in the near future to try maybe a smaller dish that I can hopefully finish.
