Just off from a long winding road in old st mellons is a hidden gem of a walk. Hidden just off a slip road on bridge road, along the Rhymeny River is beautiful nature spots. Having heard about this spot from my boyfriend several times I wanted to see the nice view at the top of the hill. So on a sunny summer’s day it came time to get to the top of that hill!
We started to walk along the slip road. we passed some beautiful horses neighing in the fields with their manes blowing in the breeze! Along the path was a huge field of hay being harvested with it floating in the glisten sunlight. On the right there is a river, with it trickling along rocks and shrubs truly a beautiful natural sight. As you carry along the path and under a flyover the traffic soon goes and it’s nice and peaceful. You then make your way along a forest passing some thorns so be careful. I caught my leg on it at one point but it was only a little scratch.
Then there in all its glory was this hill, a decent mound for me to test my footing. Taking it in sections and following the path to avoid the prickly plants. Soon I was half way up with my boyfriend not too far in the distance. This was the first time I had walked up a hill since my operation being careful not to cause any strain on my joints. Eventually we had made it to the top of the hill, being able to see far a wide in the distance. Unfortunately we could not sit down and bask in our achievement due to the high number of sheep poo present.
Soon it was time to walk back home, walking down that hill was a whole lot easier than going up it. We soon had reached the bottom and decided to follow the stream back to get a closer look at the water. Although I was warned by my boyfriend there are several muddy areas. I would advise that if you don’t jump over you will sink slightly into. I would advise anyone going to take this walk that they should wear sensible shoes. I wore walking boots or trainers as the terrain can be quite rough at times. This is a beautiful hidden spot and will be sure to return when the weather starts to brighten up a bit more.
