Having heard such good things about this Italian, I had to first hunt it down to find out where to book. Situated at the bottom of city road opposite the parade, is I Giardini Di Sorrento an independent family run Italian restaurant. I had seen pictures online that looked amazing, so thought it was a must when it was mine and a friend’s birthday for a meal. I booked well in advance as sometimes it can get busy and we had a lovely seat upstairs with 6 of us going in total. The waitress was not too over pushy and gave us time to consider our options of food.
The restaurant has specials as well as their standard menu with a lot of choice. So I had to narrow down what I was going to eat. I had already in my mind that I was going to eat a pizza but then I had to choose what flavour. I settled eventually on the mike Jameson, which had rocket, ham and parmesan on. I didn’t think I was going to get through the pizza towards the end; not having had bread it was so filling but so delicious. The fact that I struggled with the pizza was to do with the amazing starter I had, a childhood favourite relived. Coming for an Italian family as soon as I saw arancini on the specials they had to be eaten. As soon as I bit into it they reminded me of the ones just like my Nonna makes, warm and gooey.
My friends had some mouth watering food with three of them having pasta dishes. My friend Louise was very disappointed there was no lasagne on the menu so settled for the beef ragu. She enjoyed it as well as her starters of anti-pasti meats. Two of my friends were vegetarian and it has to be said that the menu was limited in choice. A suggestion of adding a few more vegetarian dishes on the menu.
The building used to be shot in the dark which I visited several times. It was lovely how they had adapted the place to suit their own decor. There were grape vines, trees and decorative wallpaper which blended in well. The staff were very welcoming and service was pretty fast, seeing as they had a huge table of people downstairs. The food is reasonably priced, but be warned certain items can vary in price. such as the lobster because of the weight of it on the day. There will defiantly be another visit here as I’m sure my dad would love the food.
