For this year's work summer party this year we all joined together at the Cardiff branch of Bierkeller. As soon as the email came around and there was the mention of hog roast I was there! With the event being a private event, there were a fair few numbers of us filling out the room.
The decor was very much a Bavarian-style beerhouse. Long wooden benches, pictures of the German countryside scattered around and many other small touches. When wanting a drink there was no need to go to the bar, no they came to you. This was a lifesaver, but also meant you got a little bit merrier a little bit quicker.
The food we had was excellent, a hog roast with the trimmings. Everyone got one token for food which gave you a very substantial portion. The meat came in a bread roll with stuffing and a side of roast potatoes. The salad though it looked appealing when actually coming around to eating it, not so great. I felt it had been drizzled in an awful watery oil making it taste bitter. The near and the stuffing though were literally soo good and would highly recommend.
Now to talk about the best bit, the music. The DJ firstly had a great mixture of modern and also cheese to taste all people. Then when we were all a bit merry they brought out the band. This was a traditional oompah band with attire on the band to match. I literally have not laughed so much in a long time. Swaying side to side, back and forth with everyone having their arms on the person in front of them shoulders. At one point I thought I had come to the gym jumping up and down.
I think everyone had a great time, I laughed so much that I pulled a muscle in my cheek. The only thing I would say is the air conditioning didn't seem to be on and it would have been much appreciated.
