I had researched a lot of places beforehand to make sure we had options for vegan meals. When looking on trip advisor there were limited options, but came across rugantino who offered vegan pizzas. With it being a Saturday night we went in and booked just in case it was busy. We said roughly 7.30/8 pm, the lady was very accommodating and said anytime around then would be fine.
The menu had a huge choice of food from, pizza, pasta and meats. They also offer a set menu for around £35 with mini versions of an array of dishes.
For starters, I opted for one of my favourite dishes of arancini, a traditional Sicilian dish. Balls of rice wrapped in breadcrumbs, these ones though were in a scrumptious truffle sauce. My friends had a mixture of bread with olives with a balsamic and olive oil dip.
So onto the mains, I was spoiled for choice and I'm very indecisive so had to narrow it down. I eliminated pizza off the menu as didn't want to feel bloated from bread. Then I worked on which pasta I should go for, I eventually narrowed it down a pasta dish. The dish had pancetta and chicken in it with a creamy tomato sauce. It was very filling and the flavours accompanied each other well.
My friends though did go for pizza, the pizza base itself is vegan as standard but remove the cheese and its perfect. There are plenty of vegetarian toppings to choose from so the combinations are endless. The pizza I was told was tasty and had a good base.
The meal cost around £80 which included a bottle of wine, mains and starters. I thought this was a reasonable price for the food you get. We left out the back door which then leads you onto the cathedral and was splendid at night to see.
