Wells Cathedral

This beautiful place has many a view inside and outside that everyone can love. When visiting do take into account that services are on and access may be limited to certain areas. When we first visited we did it a bit backwards and went to the cafe first. The cafe has a huge range of food with there even being vegan-friendly cakes. The coffee is a bit mediocre but all are reasonably priced.

It then came to entering the actual cathedral itself. When you enter there is a sign that has the suggested amount £6.00. But right in front is then a queue and tills which makes you feel obliged to pay. When saying, one adult, you are then told that would be £6.00 so the sign is very misleading. We were then handed a leaflet which when then opening was just a list of services. Being the big kid I am I grabbed the kid's leaflet age 11-16 this was the best idea ever. This leaflet has things to look at you would not even notice otherwise.

As we entered there we tons of chairs that you could sit on and take in all the beautiful architecture. Grabbing the kids leaflet gave you an excellent map and told you where to look for the hidden treasures. If you look up each nook and cranny has different sculptures or images depicted in the stained glass.

One of the big spectacles in the clock pictured below. The design representing a sundial with beautiful imagery. If your patient enough every 15 minutes the clock chimes with a little display above it.  Many people sit on the bench patiently waiting to see the spectacle.

Just as you pass the clock to the left is a beautiful staircase up towards the chapter house. The stairs have had that many people walk up and down them, they are very worn so be careful when walking up them. When you get to the chapter house it is a beautiful room with beautiful architecture. When sitting looking at all its glory, look a bit closer and you can see markings of stonemasons markers.

As you enter back down into the main cathedral grounds you hear the organ echoing throughout. The light that glows in through the windows is literally heavenly. As you walk along there are many art installations as well on the left-hand side. These currently depicting such things as a crown of thorns. There is plenty to be seen and I would recommend taking about an hour or two to see it all.
