Thompsons Park - Cardiff

When the snow dog trail was in Cardiff, one place a dog was situated was in Thompsons Park. When I saw it I only had time to pop in see the dog and go. I only knew of the park from that point and knew I had to return. Situated between the streets of Pontcanna, it's easily accessible by getting on the number 61 bus.

As you enter you are welcomed by a statute of what id say was a little boy. There is a pool of water around him with pumps for fountains but not actually functioning. Around the pool is a ring of beautiful flowers and then a small fence so it can't be ruined. Scattered nearby are benches where you can sit and relax.

As you continue to go further into the park, there is a small pond. Once again. With a bit of fencing, but allows you to get close enough so you won't fall in. If it had not been such a spontaneous trip I would have brought bird feed to feed the beautiful duckies. Draped in the middle of the water is this magnificent weeping willow, giving the ducks some shelter from those hot days but also creating beautiful scenery.

As you go left of the pond there is a small stone bridge which leads you to the steps. These steps are not too steep with them being wide it makes an easier climb. I know I will have to return in autumn once the leaves have changed, those stairs will a spectacular view no doubt.

When you reach the top of the stairs you come to a huge field. Surrounded on the outskirts with shady trees. When I went it was pretty empty, but on weekends I imagine it to be heaving with families. A path takes you right around the field, then on the left a slightly sloping path back to the start. This park is accessible to the disabled, just take into account the slight gradient. I'll have to return soon even if it's to sit and read a book.  When this time does come I must not forget the bird seed either.
