The bear hotel Bath

After looking long and hard for a place to stay, I settled on The bear hotel. It was about a 10-minute walk from the train station and was cheaper than most. Take into account it cost £140 for two people for a one-night bed and breakfast. Bath can be a pretty expensive place to stay as I had found out.

As we approached it was clear to find due to the huge polar bear atop of the building. We arrived in the evening and as its a pub downstairs waited at the bar patiently. We were then shown to our room which is above the pub, but you can't hear the sound above.

When we got in the room it was very spacious but very cold as the air conditioning had been on. Our room was the Chaucer room, with each room being named after a writer.

We turned the air conditioning off right away and turned the heating on to warm up the room. This took a long time especially when the room was single glazed. To warm up quicker I took advantage of their range of teas they had to offer in the rooms. They also had some clipper hot chocolate which did help.

The bed was huge and beautifully handmade, it did not creek once for a wooden bed. The pillows though were not so great and took a while to get comfortable.

The next day we woke up and the bathroom was luckily warm due to that section having double glazing. The shower though beautiful and powerful, but temperature hard to keep constant. Toiletries are also supplied so no need to bring your own.

It was time to go down for breakfast which was located in the pub. There was a smaller sample of what was on offer compared to their website. I settled for a poached egg on toast. My boyfriend had a full English. The menu said eggs which were very vague, the toast they had seemed to only be brown as well. I guess normally, people are asked what type and how they would like their eggs. The guy who was serving was on his own and it was pretty busy. Luckily my poached eggs were nice and runny.

We then grabbed our stuff and went to pay our bill. For the £140 I think it was a bit overpriced for what it was. I have stayed in other places for less with better options. If in return to bath, I will be maybe using air bnb next time.
