Anatonis pizzeria

With so many Italian restaurants to choose from,  we picked Anatonis as it was local to us and I had heard great things. As it was a friends birthday meal we booked to avoid disappointment.  Situated on Welfield road its easy to access with lots of bus routes, or a short walk  from the city centre. Before going I did a bit of research beforehand to try and narrow down food choices. There are 13 pizza flavours to select from and that's without specials or extra toppings.

We had booked the table for 6 pm and I was the first to arrive. As I walked in I had a warm welcome in Italian. The place is only small but they have utilised the space well. I was given a choice of two tables and choose the one with the chairs that seemed the most comfortable. I then was offered a drink and had the menu explained to me.

Eventually, everyone else arrived and it was time to order. All orders are taken off us and put onto an iPad, so it's very up to date for an independent company. With some of the group being vegetarian the thing I would say that is missing is an indication of which pizzas are veggie friendly. It meant that each ingredient had to be checked just in case.

One thing we noticed on the menu was an ingredient which is called D.O.P. This is the tomato base of choice which is used on the pizzas. It becomes apparent its a much-loved ingredient with empty containers scattered around the restaurant.

The names of the pizzas are very quirky with my choice being Gino Sorbillo(£11.50). Loaded on to it are Italian sausage, wild mushrooms, baby spinach and mixed roasted pepper. The dough was nice and soft and was easy to cut up. When cutting it into triangles to eat, the cheese separates and is nice and stringy. The only thing I'd say is the dough is thin in the middle so does not support the toppings that well. The flavours were great and I will definitely be back to try more.

After food, we were way to full for one of their tasty desserts, unfortunately. Although we all had pizza there are other dishes to sample. From a range of starters to pasta dishes. The one I defiantly want to try will be the arancini and will be back soon to try it. When we did eventually leave the place was heaving which shows just how popular it is. I'd highly recommend it and they even do takeaway if your passing by.
