Tim peak and space exploration

Last weekend I took a stroll down to one of my favourite places to visit, Cardiff museum.  Having heard the exhibition was coming I knew I needed to visit. Here till February 10th 2019 and free its open for all to see.

On display, there is the capsule that Tim Peak used to make his entry back to earth from the international space centre. You can see the marks from the impact of hitting the earth's atmosphere. The parachute to slow down their impact also still attached.

The capsule itself inside is mostly visible through a tiny porthole. The cramped space is crazy to imagine sitting in such close proximity on the descent back to earth. There is an interactive board nearby as well that shows you the inside in more detail if you fancy a closer look.

As you continue into the exhibition there are further displays. The one that stands out most is Tim Peaks space suit. Although it is in a glass cabinet you can see how heavy it must have been to wear the suit. Further along, there is a prop spacesuit you can take a great photo with and be your own astronaut.

So the exhibit does have one aspect that is not free if you want to take part. This is the virtual reality room, costing £6 per person over the age of 13. I didn't take part in this but is not actually well advertised.

The only other thing on display is some rocks that had come from a meteor. Toward the end, there are also some books for children to explore more. I was disappointed though on the way space was utilised. Celebrating British and European space exploration could have been displayed more.  The great achievements that have been accomplished over the years in space discovery.
