Cathedral 73

After reading wales online article about great places to eat Cathedral 73 was added to the list. Then luck had it  Groupon had an offer 3 courses for two people for £29. I nabbed it up as soon as I could, there was certain exclusion such as dining around Christmas.  With time ticking, I thought I better book it before it's too late. The original plan was to go for a lunchtime meal, but that was fully booked. So Saturday evening there was a space so seemed like a better time than any.  When phoning up to book the staff right away were so friendly and I had high hopes for our meal.

When we arrived it was pretty busy, people finishing up from a party and another large table so it was pretty loud. We were then seen to our seats, a snug 2 seater table near the partition doors. The menu is only the basic, due to the offer being off the grazing menu.

Firstly was the starters only a selection of 4 things, we decided to choose different things to get a taste for the food. I choose the garlic mushrooms on bruschetta with the side salad. The mushrooms were beautifully seasoned and the bread had a great crunch to it. My boyfriend had the arancini with chestnut mushrooms and a pesto puree. The crumbs on the outside were beautifully crisp, but there could have been a bit more seasoning to the pea puree.

When it came to the mains meal once again there were 4 options. The steak option though it did have a £5 supplement if that was your choice. But both of us opted for the chicken thighs with olives. The chicken was beautifully moist and the olives complimented the dish greatly. You could choose a side as well and I went for the triple cooked chips. They were so hot that even after 10 minutes steam was coming from them. Crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Finally, it came down to the desert, although these are not on the menu there are still 4 options. The options were rice pudding, New York cheese, chocolate torte and chocolate pudding. I knew I wanted a chocolate option and the waitress described the difference between the two greatly. I opted for the gooey chocolate pudding and my boyfriend the New York cheesecake. Both came with options for cream or ice cream. We both opted for the deliciously cream ice cream. Both were so yummy if I had room I would have had a second one.

As we had a voucher we only had to pay for our drinks. Our meal experience was only about an hour and a half but didn't feel rushed at all. We paid the bill and were out quickly. Overall great experience, but I may go at a quieter time.
