Miller & Carter Cardiff Bay

So first this meal would have not been possible due to my amazing job. With my team having the determination and motivation we won a competition for a team night out. Before we had even won the competition we had aspirations of going to Miller & Carter to chow down on steak.

We booked only a week in advance for a table of twelve. With it being such a popular place we chose a weekday evening, even then it was really busy. Take into account if using the car park ensure you tell the staff so you don't get booked.

First, the waiter ( we think his name is suave) took our drinks order. I was very impressed with his knowledge of drinks on draft as well as getting the right drink to the correct person. He was also great at making sure that we had refills if needed them. When ordering our food as well his system of taking orders clockwise was great. Later on, when the food did come out everyone's orders came out the same way.

Firstly we had the starters, with most of us getting cheesy and normal garlic bread for the table. As you can see above the presentation made them look that more appetising. The garlic to cheese ratio was just right and the bread cooked to perfection. To quote Simran "the garlic bread is banging".

With steak not being everyone's cup of tea, there are several other options to suit everyone taste.  From burgers, salads, fish and other dishes you don't have to have steak.

The majority of us though did have steak and it soon came time to have our lettuce wedge. The lettuce its self so fresh and crisp with the sauce complementing it so well. I chose the garlic mayonnaise and grana padano, this cheese was just the right strength that it did not overpower the sauce. This though is just one choice of dressing with three other options to choose from.

Then it came to what we had all been waiting for, steak! I choose the 8oz sirloin steak costing around £19. This is just one of several steaks on offer, from different cuts to sizes. You could literally spend a fortune on steak in there if you wanted too.

Each steak comes with a side salad, grilled tomato, skin on fries, garlic butter, a side of steak sauce and their famous onion loaf. I opted for the porcini mushroom and black garlic sauce, it complemented the steak beautifully. If mushrooms are not your thing though there are 4 others to choose from. The grilled tomato which I'm sure I'm the only one who ate it was cooked perfectly with no burnt bits. With their onion loaf, I'm just jealous I can't make something as nice as that at home. Crispy and flavoursome that it just melts in your mouth.

All steak meals come with skin on fries but upgrades are available. From sweet potato fries to loaded fries, myself though I opted for beef dripping jacket wedges. Although you only get about 4 or 5 the potato is so fluffy inside its worth it. On top there was a sauce that was a bit of a mystery, looking like mayonnaise and ketchup mixed but tasted fine.

Now onto the steaks, each steak does have a recommendation of how it should be cooked on the menu. But don't let this make you feel that has to be the way. I opted for medium rare and they got it spot on. With the assistance of a steak knife, it cut into chunks perfectly. Apart from the tomatoes, everyone plates had been cleaned of scrumptious food.

In the end, we didn't feel rushed to leave as if we were blocking the table for someone else. The waiter gave us the bill to pay when we were ready.  Although we had won the competition and were paying on one card he was ready to split the payments for us if needed. Not having been to this branch before, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and will be happy to return soon.
