This has taken me a while to write as I had a bit of writer's block. I guess two weeks later is not too bad as I can remember the food so well. My dad has wanted to visit here for so long, with him being Italian he appreciates good Italian cuisine.
We booked in advance because it can be very popular, with there being 6 of us it was a good option. When getting there the traffic to get to Canton was so busy which made us slightly late. We called to let them know in advance and it was no problem at all. Eventually, we arrived around 7.15 and were shown to our table upstairs.
It was time to get in our orders as we were all starving by the time we got there. Their selection of drinks is excellent, especially the range of San Pelligrino. With my parents opting for some red wine, which I recall the whole bottle went down smoothly.
For starters, we had already planned what we were having. A favourite food of our family arancini. Here they are so good even my dad was impressed. The range of flavours is incredible. I and my boyfriend opted for 3 to share in total. We had the nduja, funghi and bolognese. They were so delicious and shaped differently to disguise between them. Each one only costing £2.00 which was great value seeing the size of them.
It soon was time to move on to the main meal, it was hard to narrow it down with so much on offer. I and my boyfriend both opted for pasta dishes. Mine was off the specials menu and is pictured above. It consisted of chestnut pasta stuffed with cheese, walnut and porcini mushroom, sauteed with chicory(£12.95). The portions were small but it made sense as the filling was mouthwateringly rich. The blend of flavours complimented each other fantastically.
My boyfriend had pasta of the main menu, the portion size of pasta was huge. The dish was called pasta alla boscaiola. A combination of tomato, creamy mushroom and smoked pancetta(£9.00). The food was delicious and the portions great value for money.
My aunt and her partner also opted for a dish from the specials. They chose the beef fillet steak wrapped in bacon cooked medium. This was served in a mushroom sauce with cherry tomatoes and quails egg(£19.95). The beef was cooked beautifully.
Both my parents opted for pizza and to tell you the truth when they came out I was jealous. The dough looked amazing with bubbles in it where it had been cooked to perfection. My dad was so happy they had the parmigiana flavour as he been looking for it since he went to Rome. The pizzas were so filling my mum had to take some home so she had room for pudding. Pizzas are great value for the quality your getting ranging from £8.50- £13.00, with extras to add as well.
So we all saved room for dessert and I had one thing on the mind, cannoli! I found out they had them and wanted to try to gobble them all up. With my dad discussing them in Italian to the waitress, there was a bit of a miscommunication. I asked my dad what flavours and he kept telling me chocolate, what I didn't know is there were other flavours. So they came and unfortunately the chocolate was dark chocolate and made the dish a bit too rich. If I knew of the other flavours I may have enjoyed them more. My dad though loved them as they were more to his taste.
When we left we were given a friendly farewell and full to the brim. A week later my brother was home and even took advantage of there take away menu. We grabbed him the delights of arancini and he loved them. This dish is the star of the show, but I'll have to return and sample their other delights soon.
