On my spree of voucher shopping, I came across a great offer for Cathedral 73. This offer was for afternoon tea, there were several options for group sizes and prosecco or not. We opted for the standard afternoon tea for four of us, costing £35. Making that £8.75 person what a bargain! We booked about 3 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment as it can be busy. Based half way down cathedral road there is easy access just be careful it's hard to park.
When we did arrive we were about half an hour early but they found us a table anyway. We were sat down and offered hot drinks while our food was prepared. Options for tea or coffee were available, although we had English breakfast I'm sure other options are on offer. As the pots are a bit small we asked for extra hot water to top it up, it was no problem at all for the staff. We also had tons of teapot top-ups at no extra cost, where some places would charge.
Then it was brought out, the tower of cakes, sandwiches and moose awesomeness. We were first told the flavours of sandwiches where most places I've been recently don't tell you. We had a selection of four flavours with a mixture of brown and white bread. The salmon with cream cheese was beautifully fresh to taste, my favourite of them all. The other flavours were cucumber, ham and mustard, cheese and pickle. All tasted delicious.
The array of cakes were beautiful and each one was listed to us when brought out. The first one I bit into was a mini apple muffin, gooey to the taste. One of the greatest cakes was chocolate and passionfruit cake. The layers were delicious but not too overpowering.
On the top shelf, there was a posset, sweetly flavoured with lemon, with a blend of biscuit and a blueberry on top. Next to it a roulade, with a springy sponge and deliciously sweet to taste.
The best was left for last, unable to fit on the cake stand the scones are brought out separately. With a mini milk churn filled to the brim with cream and a side of jam. The scones are not the biggest, but just the right size after the rest of the food. They cut beautifully, no crumbling apart so the toppings spread on smoothly.
We spent around 2 hours eating and drinking and in such a great company. The staff were great and friendly and we would be sure to return.
