Ripple Living, Cardiff 's zero waste store

Having heard and seen so much about this place I finally went to visit yesterday. Based on Albany road just up from HSBC bank, it's in a great location and easy to access. The aim of the store is to create less waste making our environment a much better place.

As you can see from most of my photos they are of the food aspect of things, but there is much much more. From environmentally friendly cleaning products, beauty products and toilet paper there is tons to offer. Woden cutlery for life, to handy metal straws. Many of their products are also ethically sourced from their clothes to their coffee.

As I only had about 10 minutes before my bus came it was unfortunately only a short visit. But when I was there I made sure to take pictures to clock what food I can buy in future. Although they do have paper bags or small jars for 60p to fill your goods, the purpose is to reuse whatever you have in the first place.  I saw one lady there who must love Greek yoghurt as she was putting those 3 empty containers to good use.

I was so spoilt for choice on what to buy, from nuts to pulses, to cereals and pasta. I opted for some pistachio kernels, although an afterthought I should have gotten the ones in shells already roasted. Though it was one of the more expensive products costing me £5.09 for 150g, I'll be roasting them and sprinkling them on ice cream over the weekend.

Whilst I was there the most exciting thing for me was the black-eyed turtle beans. Do you know how hard they have been to find in larger quantities, yet they taste so good. With them being only 34p per 100gs I've now got black-eyed turtle beans literally on tap. A few other hidden gems, were the bird feed perfect to stop by on your way to Roath park and much better than bread for the ducks. If you're a lover of peanut butter then bring a jar and freshly squeeze it from fresh nuts.

When my supplies start to run low at home I know where I will be visiting to stock up. Unfortunately, they are not open on Monday but open every other day. Do be patient though as I hear it can get busy. So if in the area I would say don't hesitate to visit and do your bit for the environment.
