Just outside of Rome is the small town of Bracciano only an hours ride on the train. We had gone to spend the day here and needed somewhere to grab a spot of lunch. Just off the main road near the base of the castle was Osteria De Nerone.
The menu was displayed outside and had most food options in English as well, so we made the leap into the restaurant. We were warmly welcomed in and seated with menus. The decoration is quite eclectic signs with sayings on as well as some unusual paintings. One picture though is of the castle, which you can see slightly in the picture below.
We first ordered our drinks, with most of us sticking to water. My friend Liz opted for a beer, which was a bargain, €4 euros for an enormous bottle. We got the usual bowl of bread while we waited for our food to arrive.
I'd opted for a pasta dish costing around €12 euros. When it arrived it came piping hot, smelling beautiful. The sauce evenly covered the spaghetti the prawn ratio was fab and the rocket was not too hot. The waiter even bought me a spoon as he could see I was no expert with twirl the spaghetti on the fork.
Liz and Katie both opted for a chickpea soup. Originally they thought it was a broth with chickpeas in it. To their surprise, it was a creamy blend of chickpeas and tasted great. There was even more bread as well to mop up any leftover bits of soup.
Before we left Katie opted for a bowl of seasonal fruits. I tried one of the strawberries and it was so fresh and tasty, great quality fruit all round. When it was time to leave payment was quick and easy. We then were given a friendly farewell. If even in the area I'd visit again to sample other delights off their menu.
