On a week day evening me and my boyfriend visited a restaurant we have been meaning to go for a long time. Based on City road is Ali Wali a small restaurant offering Omanian cusine. When we entered the restaurant was very decorated with scattered stones on the wall and some decorative knives.
We sat down and were given the menu, the menus had great visual pictures as well to give you an idea of the food. They had a great selection of drinks as well with juices , smoothies and milkshakes. I opted for a mango juice and it was so fresh and fruity.
We then placed our orders and sat and waited for our food. We were handed a complementary lamb broth. The broth was very fragrant and a great start to the meal. For starters we ordered to share some lamb kibbeh(£4.50 for 3). These croquettes were made from bulgar and stuffed with lamb mince, onions and herbs. The meat was beautifully cooked and lightly spiced that it was not too over powering.
It was then time for our mains, both of us has chosen another lamb dish. I had opted for a lamb thareed (fattah) , a dish that had shredded lamb and naan bread. I thought that maybe the naan might be a bit soggy, but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually really tender. My boyfriend opted for lamb kouiz(£12.00), which came with rice and salad. This came with a huge moist lamb shank with a mountain of rice. You had an option of side sauces and he opted for the spicy one, but it was only a little spicy. My boyfriend could not finish the rice as it was such a huge portion.
The food was so good there that we had sampled, the menu though was massive. So many options to choose from that we will have to return. It was pretty quiet the time we were there, with some people getting deliveries. With it being hidden behind the bus stop I think it gets missed at times. This is a shame as the food is cooked so well.
