The picturesque village with cottages, streams and mini bridges. I have not been somewhere in a long long time where there are so many people. It is a tourist honeypot, with people lining the streams and streets.
We got there with a plan on where to go, parking, there are car parks galore. This is to accommodate the bus and car loads of people flocking there in summer. Once we parked costing about £5 for 3 hours with a short walk to the attractions.
The attraction we went to was the model village, costing £4.50 for an adult. Its only small, but so is the village and its the replica of Bourton on the water. There is even a mini village with in a mini village which I though was amazing. The detail it goes into with the stain glass church windows , to little people in the houses. My favourite has to be replica of the motor museum. They had a mini Brum in the window which was a great detail. Unfortunately it is not disabled friendly due to the narrow paths you have to walk along. The £4.50 is well worth it though and I would highly recommend a visit.
Once we had finished here we took a mooch around the shops. With some interesting ones on display as well as lots of food options. There is a Christmas shop all year round to visit, many antique stores and lots of place to have ice cream.
So as it had gotten very hot with a peak heat weekend , it was time for some ice cream. Just down the road from the model village is a mini cafe that sells a modest range of ice creams. The Den had a range of ice cream that was also vegan. Many of the ice creams could be turned into milkshakes as well. I opted for a raspberry and clotted cream ice cream in a waffle cone. It was great quality ice cream, I think the brand was judes ice cream and I would defiantly have it again.
Once we had gobbled our ice cream it was time to find a shady part to sit in. Lots of people were sat along the edge of the water and if you can't beat them join them. So we paddled our toes and it was freezing , even with the 32 degree heat. There was the odd duck that passed and I was prepared with my duck feed for once. So we feed the ducks and they were more than pleased.
Overall there were good and bad parts of Bourton on the water. The over crowding, but I guess I was adding to that. But the amount to do there I may return not when it's the school holidays. There was the fact I did not see Brum in the flesh means I need to return. There was also a hedge maze to explore. So plenty to do but not enough time.
