On the last Saturday of May me and my friends decided to take a trip to Caerphilly. Take a walk around the town and grab a bite to eat. I thought it was best to look up and book a restaurant before hand. There were a few options but the most appealing was Casa Mia. Close to the train station and also to the Castle. I prebooked and a deposit was required as well but taken off then bill at a later stage.
We had booked a table for around 1.30pm to give time for the main lunch rush to go. The resturant is upstairs although they have a chair lift it's not really that disabled friendly. We were warmly welcomed when we arrived and shown to our table. I was presently surprised that my request on the booking had been actioned , a table facing the castle. We also did have the Tommy Cooper statue watching us eat as well.
We browsed the menu and there were a fair few options ,with a lunch time offer as well. They had an offer of 2 course for £13.55 or 3 courses for £16.55. Which was great value for money I thought.
So the time slot we had picked to eat was the same time 2 other tables of around 10 each had picked. It was about 30 minutes before our drink orders were taken. The staff were so very apologetic mind and our drinks were then on the house. I had opted for a local cider created by the Williams brothers. Made in Caerphilly and with 3 options of tartness I was very impressed. I had chosen the sweet option, but next time I know to opt for the medium, as it was very sweet. When our drinks came we had ordered are food as we were ravenous.
We had all opted for 2 course of a starters and a main . The puddings did not seem to be listed on the main menu, well what I could see. I had opted for the brushetta crispy bits of bread with tomato ,oil and balsamic vinegar. I had cut it into bite sizes bits and it tastes delicious. Only criticism I had was the tomatoes were big chunks. This meant they were prone to falling off the bread, if smaller would of been more manageable.
My one friend had opted for the tomato soup, it came out pipping hot. It looked delicious and came with a bread roll and vegan spread. My other friend had chosen the calamari. It hit the sport perfectly, cooked well and was nice and crisp.
Once we had lined our stomach's it was time to get on to the main. I had chosen my all time favourite meal sausage and mash! The sausages were spicy Welsh dragon sausages. I checked before because one persons spice level is very different to another. I got informed it was a hint of spice, so I risked it. I was not disappointed they were well spiced but not that it was going to burn my mouth off. The gravy was a nice onion gravy with the red onion left in for good measure. The mash potato was nice and creamy and a good portion size as well. The peas though were a bit over cooked so were lacking in flavour.
My two friends had both opted for the moussaka, a vegan freindly one. The sauce on top being soy and extra vegetables added in instead of meat. When it came over it was piping hot, with the tomato sauce still bubbling away. Both if them did not leave a crumb on the plate. It looked delicious and have been told it was beautifully seasoned.
With this being my first visit I am sure I will be returning again. The fact that they try to use local suppliers impressed me a lot. The fact they also really value their service , giving us the drinks for free. I noticed that people were having lots of afternoon teas , they looked lovely so will have to taste it at some point.
