Recently new to the scene is Corfu By Night, a Greek restaurant located on Woodville Road. Easily bookable online with a wide range of food on offer. When we firsted entered there were only 1 other tables occupied in what was a very large restaurant. One a larger table and on a smaller table, buy the rest empty. We were seen to our tables promptly and left to browse the menu.
This gave us time to take in the decor of the building. I would call it a seaside town theme ,blue and white being a strong colour, maybe to reflect the Greek flag. On the ceiling there is a boat and a kind of affect to make it seem like the sea and beach.
We were then approached by a lovely waitress, that was so helpful throughout. She gathered some drinks for us and even some tap water. When drinks were empty she was prompt yo get refill as well.
It then was time to order food I had narrowed it down to the pastitsada. A lovely rich pasta dish, but they did not have it. This lead me to panic ordering instead and getting the confit pork belly(£14.90). I also opted for a side of halloumi fries(£6.20).
So the halloumi fries were actually a pretty decent portion, getting 4 large fries. These were not too oily and had a good pull to them. It came with a side of kumquat and chilli jam. I had not read what the side was before hand, so until looking it up I could not put my finger on the ingredient. All I would say is its an acquired taste and not for me.
The pork belly was in one of the charcoal grilled dishes , with a range of meats being on offer. It came with a really crunchy strip of crackling. The outside of the pork pulled apart but as you got in the centre it got a bit drier but tasted fine otherwise. The dish comes with a side of tatziki, salad and wedges. The dip, I have had better , the salad was just rocket tossed in olive oil. The wedges though were well seasoned and crunchy in the outside and soft in the middle. So it did not state on the menu that it came with bread, but a slab of what I called toast came with it. I think I would of preferred a pitta bread to tell you the truth.
My one friend had chosen a grill option as well, the chicken souvlaki(£12.90) , marinated chicken thighs. These came with exactly the same sides as mine minus the crackling. She had asked for a side of mayonnaise, lucky she had the chicken she felt was a bit dry , but the mayonnaise helped.
My other friend opted for another charcoal grill dish on the menu, the kebab philidelphia(£14.80). The cheese was an intresting combination but the meat was not the best. Filling it with feta he felt would of been a better option.
Overall the meal was OK, if I had had the pasta it may have been a different story. The waitress did ask at the end if the food was OK, and it was just OK. With so many Greek restaurant in cardiff now, I have to say I have had better.
