Daffodil

Located on Windsor Place, you might not even know this hidden gem was there. Having seen great food from them I knew I needed to try it. Me and some friends went for a spot of brunch and a catch up.

The hanging sign stands tall and symbolic with a great picture of a daffodil. As we walked in it was very quiet , but this could be due to it being 10am in the morning. We spotted the table right away where we wanted to sit, right in view of the crackling fire place. The decor was lovely with comfy chairs, trailing plants and a lot of original building features.

I went up to the bar to grab some menus, so we could have a browse. Brunch is served 10am till 3pm with other menus on offer later on in the day. The menu consists of a few breakfast items as well as a range of sandwiches.

We kept talking so it took a while for us to decide what to eat. We were greeted by a lovely server who took our drinks order. They had a range of hot and cold drinks on offer as well as syrups. The lady was very knowledgeable and polite. When the drinks did get brought over I was in love with the China, a blue and white design. My tea was a brand I had not had before called Broadies. It was such a refreshing brand and there was plenty of milk to go around.

Now on to the food, I originally was going to opt for eggs, but the sandwiches tickled my fancy. What hooked me in was that they came with vegetable crisps. With an option for 4 varieties and 2 types of bread to choose from, it was a good amount and not overwhelming.

I opted for the grilled sirloin steak sandwich(£11.95), with the seeded malt house sourdough. The steak came sliced and cooked very well. The sandwich was stuffed full as bites of steak did fall out at times. It came in a beautiful glaze of parmesan herb butter , this complimented the steak so well.

My two friends opted for the the smashed avocado(£7.95). This came on sourdough with a poched egg and amazing flavours. The bread was a bit crisp but that can happen with sourdough at times. The eggs were cooked well and had some run but not too much oozing. The chilli, lime and cherry tomatoes complimented the avocado so well. Both of them did not leave a crumble on the plate.

Once our plates were cleared we just grabbed a jug of water to stay hydrated while we talked. The lady when bringing the bill was great and knew so much about the food. We interrogated her about the roast dinners which sounded amazing. We did not feel rushed to leave at any point, the food was great and the decor so homely. If visiting that side of town do stop by for a bite to eat or a cocktail or two.
