When friends were down from London it was time to show them cardiff food delights. Situated at the bottom of city road is Giardini di Sorrento an amazing Italian restaurant. Just a stones throw away from my house its in walking distance . If not living so close the bus stop is right outside for the number 8 will get you there.
I would strongly advise booking to
avoid disappointment . I booked about a month in advance and they have a great online booking system .
When we entered we were shown upstairs promptly to our seats. If you do have an disability do state as the stairs are pretty steep to walk up. The resturant was packed full with music playing and chitter chatter.
We looked at the menus which have many an option for everyones liking . There is also a specials board with lots of new things to try. It did take a while to narrow it down so had to tell the waiter to come back , which was not a problem at all. He then came back and asked if we had questions about the specials. This then made our minds up as they sound so delicious.
I opted for the burrta, something my brother has recommended for me to try for a while. It came with bread, rocket and prosciutto as an accompaniment. The cheese was beautifully creamy and fresh and it is now my new favourite starter.
We pretty much had the same starters apart from my boyfriend. He opted for another of my favourite Italian foods, Arancini. These were the traditional bolgense ones just like my Nonna used to make. They came on a bed of tomato sauce with a sprinkle of Parmasan and kale. He let me take a bite and it was delicious, crunchy coated soft and gooey on the inside.
It then came time for the main course, covering pizza, pasta, meats and fish. They cover something for everyones taste and appetite. I opted for one of the specials of wild boar ravioli. It came in an aromatic tomato sauce with the odd chunk of tomato thrown in for good measure. The meat was nice and tender , the ravioli cooked to perfection.
The other two members of our group both opted for a pizza, both having the same flavour. The pizza was called the pizza forte, this came with chilli, nduja , spicy salami and mozzarella. It looked delicious and they gobbled up the whole thing.
Once we had finished the food unfortunately we had no room for pudding. But I knew there was epic cannoli that they had so had to take some for the road. These currently are the best that I have found in cardiff to date. They have a great crunchy shell and a creamy inside with options chocolate dipped or pistachios.
I will be defiantly returning in the near future to try more of their tasty delights. Luckily they deliver as well on many of the food apps, so fancy a night in your still have a chance to try the food.
