Korean food in Cardiff - A hidden gem

Just on the outskirts of Cardiff right next to the welcome to Newport sign is an amazing Korean restaurant , that shame on me for taking so long to write this up. A family run BnB with an amazing Korean food. Existing since 2007 unknown to many Yakiniku is based in the Seoul house. Open Monday to Saturday evenings it's a must try if you want to try a new cusine.

When you enter the building there is a beautiful walk through with gravel and stepping stone slabs. An assortment of fish tanks with a goldfish that is 5 years old. Some beautiful plants fake and real also scatter the entrance before your seated. You will always get a friendly welcome from a lady that works so hard serving people on her own.

The drinks menu has you basic soft drinks , hot drinks and then some added specials. A range of beers including Asahi, Hite, Kirin, and Budweiser. If you fancy some Soju there are several options for you to choose from including cocktails. I am yet the bite the bullet and try the cocktails as I've been told Soju is an aquired taste.

Now let's talk about the food, I think we have tried most things on the menu from the times we have been. There is a huge range of food on offer to try that even my 5 year old nephew has discovered new foods he likes.

There are two dishes that are not on the menu that are given as complimentary, that are so simple but so tasty. Pictured at the bottom of the post a dish of beansprouts that are dressed in seasame oil that are so moreish. We tried to replicate these at home once and it was no where near the flavour, which keeps us coming back for more. The second dish is thinly diced potatoes and carrots, so simple but gets the appitite going.

The starters they have are a great range of dishes costing no more than £5.50, simple dishes that pack some flavour. Pictured above is a dish that if someone described it to me I would question it, but once tasted is an explosion of flavour in your mouth. Sweetcorn with cheese, mixed with peppers and onions , simple but so good. With the dish I highly recommend that you wait till it's cooled down as it's piping hot and no one likes a burnt mouth. Another dish that is a firm favourite is gyoza, with two flavours to choose from you can't go wrong with dipping sauce always provided.

A firm favourite of when we go out is the Pa Jun , a Pancake filled with amazing things. The pancake comes with prawns and spring onions, this dish is so simple yet is delicious. Each section being cut into bite size pieces making it an easy to share dish. There is also a kimchi version as well if fish is not to your liking, but be warned it does have a little spice to it.

The chicken pictured below speaks for its self, yum yum chicken. Beautifully blender spices sprinkled on chicken then deep fried and covered in a Sticky sauce. The portion Size does not disappoint roughly getting around 7 bits of chicken.

The first picture a perfectly arranged mouthwatering Dol Sot Bi BIM bap. The bowl it comes in is so hot that as soon as you stir the ingredients together you just hear the sizzling of the egg cooking. The flavour and texture combination of this dish is fabulous with the rice slightly crispy and the runny egg coating everything as well as the sauce.

This time I went I opted for a noodle dish Chap Che , stir fried vermicelli noodles with vegetables and beef. The noodles are evenly coated in a delightfully light sauce , coated with seasame seeds that just blend so well together. The vegetables are cooked beautifull soft and the beef is nice and tender.

These are just a few dishes that we tried on this visit but the options are endless. An option they have is for you to cook your own meats on a hot plate that is fitted into the table in the Korean BBQ style. We have gotten this once on a past ocassions but with a young child with us we thought it be best to avoid at this time.

The service everytime we go is just amazing the lady is so welcoming and accomodating. We have been lucky enough that we have never had to book to go, but after I post this I hope word get round and everyone goes to try some Korean food.
