Pasture, the resturant that has everyone hoping to get a table. It's advisable to book weeks in advance to get a table. This is exactly what we had done booked a few weeks in advance as it's popularity and hype grow. This was not the first time I was visiting, but for others in our party it was.
What I love about pasture is on the back of the menu they have a map that tells you where all their food is sourced, using a local suppliers as much as possible. Including bread from the Alex Gooch bakery which I am a huge fan of. It tells you about its meat, bread and drinks so you know where your food has come from.
We were warmly welcomed by the host on a rainy Sunday afternoon. The place was already packed full with chatter in the air and the smell of food wafting throughout. We did what we always did and looked at the food menu before the drink menu. So when our server came over we were a bit unprepared for our drinks order, but she was happy to come back. Our server was very friendly and according to the recipet was called Maysoon. Once we had settled our drinks it was time to order food and get stuck in.
So having been here before I had tried a few dishes and there was a clear favourite. The short rib croquettes (£5) are by the best starter on the menu. The gochujang aioli with it blends so well with the meat as well. The flavours are amazing and the meat melts in our mouth.
My boyfrind opted for the chicken wings(£7.50)glazed in a soy and bourbon. Before his dish came he was given a nice little finger dipping bowl to clean his fingers which is a great idea. The wings looked delicious and came with a kimichi dressing for that extra kick.
My father in law had squid(£7.95) which came with the ink in the batter. He was hugely impressed and throughly enjoyed it. My mother in law opted for the char siiu pork belly(£7.95). This came with cracking and a bbq sauce. Having had this dish myself on a previous visit I just knew she would love it. The meat is so juicy and melts in the mouth.
Now it came down to having the mains, I had originally looked up the menu before arriving but plans changed. As it was a Sunday they offer a roast, but as we arrived we had been informed the lamb had sold out. Having tried their steaks before I thought I'd mix it up this time and opted for the burger(£14.95)
The burger was a 45 day dry aged burger with house ground beef patty and a bbq short rib. It came with a secret sauce, cheese and shallots. The burger was huge but with a bit of pressure applied to the bun it was reduced to a slightly more mouth sized morsel. As I bit into it the juices from the meat filled my mouth (some may have ended up on my dress). I would advise eating it leant over the plate so you don't spill it like i did. This came with a side of chips which I have to say is not the best chips I've had. They are a bit soggy rather than having that crisp on the outside and softness on the inside. The side of pickles I gave away as these are not my cup of tea. In total 3 out of the 5 of us had the burger and throughly enjoyed it.
My boyfriend and his brother opted for steaks with sides. Both of them had serlion steak cooked medium rare. When the steak came over one was medium when bringing the food to our table. Luckily it was only slightly medium so was still cooked to their liking. My boyfriend opted for the spinch and leek gratin which I took a bite of. It was beautifully creamy and cheesey on top I would recommend this as the best side dish having had others in the past.
I would highly recommend going to anyone who enjoys meat and a great atmosphere. With a second resturant opening on the cards , I look forward to the delights they will have on offer.
