Just down the road from Tradeger house is the Dragon fly pub. A rustic building with a country feel. We had booked and were shown to our table promptly. We visited on a Sunday , you had the option of the main menu or the Sunday lunch or mix and match.
We were warmly welcomed by our server Liam. Drinks orders were placed and before you knew it they arrived. The barman came over and was smart in his tactics getting us to place a second round of drinks to be bought over in 15 minutes. My father in law is very particular about his drink and they got his instructions spot on.
It then came time to ordering food, in order not to spoil our main course we shared our starters. Me and my boyfriend opted for chicken wings while the in laws had salt and pepper squid. It hit the spot just until the mains arrived.
Most of us had opted for roast dinner which had several meat options as well as veggie. Myself I opted for the pork belly which came with this amazing bite of crackling. My boyfriend and father in law opted for the beef. They were pleased the beef was cooked to their liking medium rare. Other places we had been to more recently were opting for well done losing the taste. Each dish came with a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes , a parsnip and a jug of gravy which was refillable.
On the side we were then given carrots that seem like they had been honey glazed, with some brocoli as well. I opted for an extra and it was well worth it. The best cauliflower cheese I've had in a long time, shame I did not take a snap of it. The food was delicious, the one improvement would be the rosties, they were a bit too crisp , slightly burnt.
My mother in law opted for the pie, when it came it was huge! The pie was a chicken and pancetta pie with a creamy leek sauce. There was then some mash , roasted carrots and green vegetables. The only thing missing was the gravy , but in hindsight we should of got a refill on one of our jugs. She enjoyed the pie , but was disappointed by the mash unfortunately as it was a but dry.
Some how we got tempted and manged to find room for pudding. But once again we all shared the puddings as a whole one was a no go. My boyfriend is not usually a pudding person so I compromised and had a baked vanilla cheesecake. It came with berries and a fruit sauce, the cheesecake was so creamy and the fruit so tart so paired together well. The in laws had an orchard tart with custard, which I was pretty jelous of as I love a warm pudding.
I have to say it is one of the better places I have been to in a long time. The food was great the staff excellent and I will be sure to return again.
