Street food circus - week 3

In week 3 of the street food circus I had gained a bit of fomo missing week 2, so had to go. This time I took my friend as well as my parents to sample some food delights. We arrived about 12.30 and it was pretty busy already. Again we had got tickets but no one at the gate to check them.

First up my boyfriend got food from fork society, winners of the Welsh food awards 2022(the people's choice). The dishes consisted of loaded fries with pork. You the would choose your sauce of choice, I'm pretty sure that he went for the chipolte and lime sauce. The bite I had was delicious the meat nice and tender, he said it was lovely!

My parents new to the street food scene were not to sure what to have. My dad clocked the hog roast and even if my mum did not want it she was eating it. It took my dad a while to get the hang of it that you had a list to choose from. Hogi Hogi Hogi had hogies large(£7.50) and small (£6.50). You had a choice of brown or white bread , too add stuffing and crackling as well as 3 diffrent sauces to choose from. There is a 3rd option though of having no bread and it being in a box. My dad nearly had a heart attack when he found out crackling was 50p extra per bite size peice. The both did not leave a crumb though so throughly enjoyed it.

My friend who is vegan had a few options, most vendors having one offering or even many more. She first opted for Cosmos mexicana , choosing the burrito option. Unfortunately I do not have a photo of the burritos as its hard to photograph. The filling consisted of something you would not think of, sweet potato. She described it as so yummy at satisfying, so a great choice on offer there.

Then it was my turn to find out what delights I was going to chow down on. I did a lap of the yard and decided first choice, kapow. Not having tried them before I was unsure which dish to try. There were only 2 dishes to choose from and one side. I opted in the end for the pulled beef bun(£6.50). When it came I'd say it was more of a mini slider than a full on bun. Don't let the size fool you though for a small size it packs a lot of flavour. With garish and a beautifully tasting sauce I would say this is a must try.

My parents and boyfriend then had to sample their delights , both picking the ribs(£9.50). The ribs looked juicey, saucy and tender. As they tucked into them I could see the meat just falling off the bone.

Once I had given time for the slider to settle it was time to get some more food. A vender I have been wanting to try for so very long , Toyko nights. Recently opening in cardiff indoor market , but with the queue being long I'd gone else where. But today was the day I got to dabble in their dishes. I chose the chicken and pork gyoza(£7), which is served with kewpie mayo. I have not got a clue what is in that mayo but it packs a punch. The gyozas were the best of both worlds as well crunch but also soft at the same time. I will definitely be returning to try one of their other dishes.

So my boyfriend had taken a trip on the Saturday and we were going on the Sunday. He had highly reccomend we try this dish ,but make it our last one we ate. This vendor was one I had not been acquainted with yet ,Bao Selecta. Having been on the street food scene for a while it was only time before I had a bite. There was quite a queue so I had a time to gauge the dishes.

Me and my friend ended up both opting for the crispy beef(£5.50) , but with hers being the vegan option. My friends was ready right away, where I had to wait a bit longer. Her dish looked exactly the same as the meat version so very asetically pleasing. My boyfriend had warned me to make sure I asked for no coriander as he knows I don't like it. Luckily I had been told that that dish did not come with it so was fine.

Mine was ready within about 5 minutes as it was a popular stall. At first I looked at it and had to question myself what meat looked like. I soon realised I'd been given the pork , they happily corrected the error right away. When I bit into it the flavours were so beautifully blended. The sesame seeds a nice texture and the beef crispy but not too crispy that you break your teeth. I can see why my boyfriend advised leaving it to last mind, the flavours are so intense. If you had another dish after you would still have the lovely spices still lingering.

This weekend is the final weekend of street food for 4 days over the Bank Holiday. The list of vendors similar to the previous weekend. If you do visit and try a dish let me know incase there's one I should taste.
