Have heard great things about this place , I knew it was my time to visit. Hidden off a small street off the side of Queen Street, you might not even know it was there. The big Moose Coffee Co is a small venue with indoor and outdoor seating. I booked in advance to avoid disappointment and I was glad I did, I did see a few people walk in to find no tables free.
The coffee shop was originally created to help those that are homeless or disadvantaged in society. Using the profits to help train and get them back on their feet. They also have great other parts of the charity such as raising money for mental health. Read more on their website.
When we entered we could see it was pretty busy, but could see one table was reserved. We asked and it did happen to be ours. The first thing I had to do though was swap the chairs. There were a mixture of chairs some more comfortable than others.
Then menu was very extensive, with there being a many an option to suit anyone's taste buds. The drinks menu also had a huge range of hot and cold drinks. The service was table service so no need to move. They have a wide range of cakes which I only saw when going to pay at the end.
The waitress was very knowledge about the food which I thought was great. For my drinks I opted for an English breakfast tea at first(£2.90). As well as an additional strawberry lemonade tea(£2.90). Herbal teas can usually be awful, but this was a fruitful delight. The English breakfast tea had just the amount of milk given to make it a great brew.
Now on to the food options we went for. I opted for the French toast(£ 7.50)with this also coming as a vegan option if needed. These came with 2 chunks of bread covered in maple syrup. The dusting of fruit, it was very fresh and the yoghurt just the right portion to go with the toast. The toast was cooked well not too soggy nor was it burnt.
My friend opted for a bacon roll, a classic but always hits the spot. With options of white or brown bread to suit all tastes. When it came the bread was beautifully thick soft bread. The bacon was nice and fatty just how she liked it cooked.
Once we had finished our food we did not feel rushed at all to leave which I felt was great. I used the toilet facilities and was in love with them. They had rainforest music playing so no embarrassing sounds would get heard through the walls. It was well equipped and disabled friendly.
I would highly recommend going, it had great food, decor, staff and all goes towards charity. When in the city centre do consider getting a coffee and a cake from here over the larger chains as it pays to shop independently.
