When meeting for lunch with a friend I thought what places have I not been to in the area or Roath. So many places and not enough time. I did some research and remembered The Coffi House. Located at the start of Welfield Road a long standing coffee shop offering a fair lot of food.
When I entered it looked just how I remembered it to be. It gave me flashbacks of some 20 years ago when I used to regularly visit with my grandmother. The same curved window, the same booths and the same green awning.
I was first to get there so grabbed a cuppa of tea. As soon as I got to the till I realised it was cash only. The lady was so kind and said it was fine to add it to my order when my friend got here. The tea was great as she asked my preferences and mine is more milk than tea.
When my friend arrived it was easy for us to lift the pram up so it was out of the way for all. I had already had a good browseof the menu and managed to narrow it down. There were a lot of good options to have, but my favourite was on the menu. I opted for the sausage and mash(£5.90).
I went up and placed the orders with me noticing they had a lot of extras not on the main menu. Such sweet treats as crumble, cakes and beer. I was very impressed with the lady serving she asked all the right questions and got our orders spot on.
My sausage and mash was pretty decent for the bargain price I paid. The mash was lovely and creamy , good portion of peas and 3 sausages. Yes the sausages were not the best quality , but for what I paid I was not expecting them to be. The gravy mind I love gravy so was well pleased. If your not such a gravy lover it may have been too much of a swimming pool for your taste.
So my friend opted for a chicken panni with a side of chips. The panni(£5.10)came with a little side salad and you had a choice of filling. She was very impressed with the panni. The quality of chicken was better than most, not dry like you may get else where. The chips(£2.70) were also a good portion and came in a separate bowl.
The kids meals were also fantastic value for money. You had a choice of a main, potato option and a side. Her son opted for chicken nuggest chips and peas(£4.00). So he is only 3 so this was a huge amount of food. But would fill most kids bellies very well. He enjoyed it and ate a bite of each of the items.
We were left to eat our food after our tomato sauce was brought over. We did not feel rushed at all. The place generally had OAPs in there, but it could of been the time of day. I am sure I will return in the near future to try something else such as their breakfast. It's a cheap and cheerful independent with a lot of potential.
