The Crofts Pub

With this being one of my locals I had not visited in a long time. With a recent refit and my parents raving about their roast dinners , it was time to visit. Situated just off City road The Crofts pub is an independent so I was expecting something a bit diffrent. My parents booked as previously on visit it has been fully booked. We had booked for around 1.30 to avoid the main lunch time rush.

When we got there ,there were only two other tables with people so not that busy. As you walk in you can see the carvery on the side, with a little hatch for the kitchen. The carvery is £10 per person or £8 for OAPs. I went to check you could have all 3 meats, but found out the lamb(have to pay extra)had gone. The 3 meats on offer were gammon, beef and turkey otherwise. While ordering your drinks pay at the bar for you food choices. Then go to the hatch to pick your meats.

We waited a while as there were 2 larger tables. My dad was hungry so joined the queue as soon as he could. He came back with his plate which gave me a chance to see what was on offer. Once the queue had cleared it was our time to dine. For the meat I opted for beef and gammon. This seemed to be the case for most as there was a lot of turkey left. When I was handed the plate the slabs of meat were massive, not just slithers so was very impressed.

The vegetables then are in a metal trolley with lids keeping it all warm. There are two sides so I advise starting one side then move around rather than reaching over. The Yorkshire puddings were also in this section, so if you wanted more than one you could. You could tell these were homemade as we're mismatch shapes.

Vegetables options on the day

•Roast potatoes

•boiled potatoes

•sweede

•carrots

•peas

•sprouts

•cabbage

•sweetcorn

•cauliflower cheese

Myself I opted for cauliflower cheese, peas, sweetcorn, cabbage, sprouts and roast potatoes. The cheese was amazing, so thick and coating the cauliflower not just a garnish on top. So sprouts are a love or hate thing, so I thought why not. They were cooked just right not hard and not too soft that they were mush. The sweetcorn and peas were pretty standard. The carrots though were great they had a little crunch to them so were just cooked right in my opinion.

In the side were the condiments , the gravy was a good consistency so I poured it on. There were a few option for sauces , I generally don't like most so opted for cranberry. My dad had pretty much demolished his food before we had sat down, which is a good sign. The plates were a good size to fit the right amount of food on.

The rosties then in the trays there were a variety of them to everyone's liking. Big , small, soft, crispy you name it. I was very impressed by them personally. The trays as well were constantly topped up so nothing lay empty.

Myself and my boyfriend did not opted for pudding but my parents did. With about 5 dishes to chose from all costing £3.50 each. My mum opted for jam sponge and ended up with ice cream, even though she clearly stated to my dad custard. But the pudding went down all the same with not a crumb left. My dad on the other hand had apple pie with custard(to my mums annoyance). There were lashing of custard and he pretty much licked the plate clean.

Overall I was impressed by my first visit , I would love to try the lamb next time, so will visit earlier. The only thing missing mind was brocolli and parnsips. These are a favourite of mine, but they might have other vegtables options on other days. I also will make sure I leave room for pudding as I do have a sweet tooth.
