Situated on Welfield Road for just under a year sits a bakery with a coffee shop. Ty Melin is a recent addition to the road with sweet treats, breads and beverages. Having tired their sour dough bread I knew I needed to try their pastries.
So me and a friend visited on a week day. The shop is very roomy for a coffee shop which was good for us seeing as we had a pram. Often you find that place can ram as many chairs in as possible, but here they were nicely spaced. We opted for the table with 4 seats so we could all fit, but the chairs are a bit hard and plastic. The table is a good height and the decor was generally very neutral. They had art dotted around the walls, with the artist being supported with a card on the table to promote it.
Now on to the food, they had a small selection of cakes as well as pastries. I was very annoying and integrated the staff about what was what. I finally narrowed it down to a pastry for me. My friend had a slab of what I think was white chocolate and raspberry cake, her son having a chocolate chip cookie.
So first my pastry, danish, sweet treat what ever you would like you call it. So what the actual flavour was this has slipped my mind, but there was some fruit in there. So going to sound all technical, but the lamination of the pastry was amazing. When I cut into it you could see all the perfect layers. The pastry was light and sweet and the flavours blended so well together. I was really impressed.
My friend had her cake which was huge, a chunky slab or sponge. There was a great layer separation between them and a good amount of filling. She thought that it was a lush cake and throughly enjoyed it. Her son had a chocolate chip cookie, which was more a chocolate chunk cookie. The chocolate chunks were huge, the nibble I had was amazing , not dry, soft and crumbly in your mouth.
Our drinks were freshly brewed and came in simple white china. They use tea leaves which I like as it is a bit more environmental friendly. I did how ever have to go and ask for milk as I my friend was given an empty milk jug with the tea. I am sure I will be returning in the future to try another culinary delight.
