So funnily enough, when walking to go for brunch I discovered this amazing place along Whitchurch road. I was on the phone to my mother and as soon as I saw Welsh rarebit on the menu I knew we had to go for brunch.
The next day after my coivd jab was done it was time to fuel up after and stay hydrated. I had made sure that I had checked the website before hand to make sure we did not need to book to avoid disappointment. The website also gave me loads of information about the cafe before hand. One of the things I found is that they try to use as many local suppliers as possible to reduce the carbon foot print which made me even more excited to go to try their food.
When we arrived we were one of the first people to arrive so had pick of all the chairs inside , we opted for the section by the window with the comfy arm chairs. We could sit and enjoy the food while watching the world go by. The layout is very mismatch and has a range of chair options to suit everyone's needs. Where we had chosen to sit was great they had a book swap corner. My mum picked up a few books, but with none to swap they convientily had a donation box as an alternative.
After choosing our options from the huge board at the counter we started on our beverages. We both had opted for a refreshing orange juice and shared pot of tea for two. The milk to tea ratio was on point ,meaning I did not have to ask for more. I especially liked the vintage milk jug it came in as it went with the mismatch furniture theme.
Then came our food, the moment we had been waiting for, my mum's came first spread across two plates. She had ordered the cooked breakfast which did not disappoint. On one plate there were slices of toast accompanied by a mini jar of butter , with the butter to toast ratio being perfect. The second plate that came was the main breakfast. 2 sausages, 2 slices of bacon, a fried egg, spinach , mushrooms , beans and a potato hash. So as my mum does not like mushrooms I had those and they were beautifully cooked. The beans were an alternative to your normal baked beans with such things as kidney beans in the mix. The best thing on the plate was the homemade potato hash, mixed in with it a bit of onion for flavour , my mum definitely enojed it .
My dish then came and there was just enough room on the table. I had ordered the cheesy leek Welsh rarebit , a dish that I love. The toast it was sitting on was so thick that it was definitely a knife and fork job. The leeks were mixed in well with the cheese and ontop there was a crumb sprinkled giving it a slight crunch. It came with a bit of a side salad but there were pickles in which Im not a fan of so had to to leave it on the side.
So we felt a bit bad that we had gone out for mother and daughter brunch and my dad was sat at home, so a treat to go was picked up. Their cake range looked beautiful so we grabbed some sweet treats. The picture below from left to right ....
Salted caramel blondie
Nutella brownie
White chocolate and raspberry blondie
Black cherry and almond blondie.
These with a cup of tea were amazing with the winner of the bunch being the black cherry and almond slice . The salted caramel was extremely sweet , so if sugar is not your thing stay away. This was just a selection of sweet treats they had on offer , there are tons more flavours to suit most people's needs.
Overall the two breakfast , 2 orange juices and a pot of tea for 2 came to £24.85. The staff are friendly and they even have a garden out the back I later discovered. I will be sure to return in the future to try another lovely dish on the menu.
